Family Fun

The Outdoors is full of fun and excitement. Best of all these opportunities are free. Your child is never to old to observe the great outdoors.

Look for living things under rocks, leaves, straw, etc. Place the organism in a box or jar to observe a few days. Surf the internet to find out more about it.
Look in trees for birds building new nests. See if you can identify the bird by the type of nest it is making. Maybe you will find some feathers. Recheck and soon you will see eggs and new life. Remember to look and not touch. Wildlife should be left undisturbed.
Search for scats and animal tracks. Try to find out what left these signs behind. Take some pictures!
Try to identify trees by their bark, buds, and leaves. Make a scrapbook.

For more fun check out the Nature Section of your public library. Fun with Nature is an excellent resource for outdoor fun.
