Celebration Day

Grade Level: 4-5

Time: 30 - 45 minutes

Objective: Students will celebrate what they have learned about their custom group.

This lesson meets the Indiana Academic Standard (Grade 5) in Language Arts: Standard 7: Listening and Speaking Skills

-Students deliver focused, coherent presentations that convey ideas clearly and relate to the background and interests of the audience. They evaluate the content of oral communication. Students deliver well-organized formal presentations using traditional speech strategies, including narration, exposition, persuasion and description....

MEETS: 5.7.3, 5.7.4, 5.7.5, 5.7.6, 5.7.8 and 5.7.10

Procedure:

Let each group celebrate what they have learned about their group with the rest of the class.

Once the groups have celebrated their group let the children individually get back on the New Year's Website and explore the student section and information station. Have each student write five things they have learned about how different groups of people celebrate the new year.

You can also discuss similarities and differences between the groups and what the students learned from using the internet.

Assessment: Assess students on the five things they learned paper.
