Both mixed numbers must be changed to improper fractions.
1 and 3/5 would be 8/5 as an improper fraction.
2 and 1/10 would be 21/10 as an improper fraction.
| 8 | / | 21 | ||
| --- | --- | = | --- | |
| 5 | / | 10 |
Now you have both mixed numbers as improper fractions. You will need to change the problem to a multiplication problem. You will also need to use the reciprocal of the second fraction (divisor).
| 8 | 10 | |||
| --- | x | --- | = | --- |
| 5 | 21 |
Now you should try to cancel. Divide the first denominator and the second numerator by 5. This will save you from having to reduce later.
| 8 | 2 | 16 | ||
| --- | x | --- | = | --- |
| 1 | 21 | 21 |
Your answer of 16/21 is proper and in lowest terms because the only thing that divides into both the numerator and denominator is the number 1.
