George Rogers Clark trained a small army on Corn Island in the Ohio River. From Corn Island he moved westward and captured the forts at Kaskaskia, Cahokia, and Vincennes. The fort at Vincennes was re-captured by the British General Henry Hamilton. In the middle of winter, Clark's small army marched chest-deep in icy water to defeat Hamilton and re-capture Fort Sackville at Vincennes.
Make a hand movie showing Clark's march and battles.
Materials needed
White paper
Glue
Empty box the size of a cracker box
Two sticks, or pencils, or dowel rods
SpoolsCut the white paper into strips about 3 inches wide. Glue several of these strips together to make a long strip three inches wide. Draw up and down lines on the strip every three inches.
Draw and color the events of Clark's march on the strips of paper in the order that they happened. Keep each event within the three inch widths. Cut a 3" x 3" opening in the front of the box. Cut the back out entirely.
Put the sticks, or pencils, or dowel rods through the cracker box from top to bottom, so that the ends extend above and below the box.
Fasten the ends of your drawn and colored strips to the sticks or pencils and roll up like a scroll. Spools stuck over the upper ends of the sticks will make handles. When the strips are inserted in the box you can roll the pictures from beginning to end like a movie.
You can decorate the front of the cracker box in any way you like.
